Choosing Window Stays for Timber Casements
A window stay is fitted to the opening casement and allows it to be held at a selected position using the pins mounted on the window frame. As well as controlling how far the window opens, the stay forms a visible part of the window furniture and should complement the style and finish of the surrounding fittings.
When choosing a replacement window stay, check the overall length of the existing stay, the position of its fixing points and the spacing of the stay pins. The size and construction of the casement should also be considered, as a visually similar fitting may not always be a direct replacement.
For new windows, the stay length should be selected to suit the size of the casement and the required opening range.
